Ciao has successfully carried out several international recruitment missions to add some of the profession's most talented specialists to our current team.
Addressing labor shortages through global recruitment
Issue: Faced with a labor shortage in Québec and committed to growth, Ciao found an effective solution by recruiting and retaining international experts eager to join our talent tribe.
Solution: With such a scarcity of local talent, we decided to look beyond borders. With the support of Québec International, we launched an international recruitment project, developing expertise to ensure the smooth and personalized integration of our international team members. Our goal was to make their arrival in Québec an unforgettable and positive experience.
Goal: From the start of this adventure in 2018, we wanted to establish ourselves as an employer of choice in Québec by:
- Recruiting IT professionals specializing in various fields;
- Supporting foreign professionals through every step of the process;
- Ensuring the proper integration within our team
- Helping family members adapt to their new homes
This initiative reflects our core values: innovation, commitment, expertise, people skills, and sustainability. We look for professionals who not only have the skills and motivation but also bring a unique spark that makes Ciao stand out. By fostering a dynamic and supportive work environment, we get a work environment where diversity, creativity, and collaboration thrive.
As a small to medium-sized enterprise, we have the unique opportunity to maintain a close connection with our new arrivals, fully aware of the sacrifices they make when choosing a new job—and often a new country. We designed this project with a constant focus on listening to the needs of every new member of our tribe.
We approached this process with empathy, crafting it as we would want to experience it ourselves, while staying true to our organizational values. To ensure a successful integration, we implemented several key steps:
- Assess bilateral fit by analyzing various aspects, such as technical skills, interpersonal abilities, the motivation behind the immigration process, and alignment of goals, through two types of interviews;
- Conduct a technical test to validate specific skills;
- Once the job offer has been made and accepted, assist new employees with all immigration-related administrative formalities;
- Respond appropriately to newcomers' questions and provide them with the necessary information in line with government obligations;
- Carry out rigorous monitoring to ensure that the process runs smoothly;
- Offer personalized support for the integration of new employees and/or their families in Québec, including concrete recommendations and practical tips (e.g. healthcare services registration, opening a bank account, finding a cell phone plan, etc.)
- Offer the services of a specialized housing search firm;
- Maintain ongoing support to ensure that each newcomer feels supported and well-integrated, both professionally and personally.
The result: After six international recruitment missions, we've welcomed 44 talented professionals from over 15 countries into the Ciao tribe. This incredible diversity enriches our organization and is a source of immense pride. Each member brings unique experiences and specialized skills that are essential to our growth and the energy of our team. By combining our strengths and celebrating our differences, we foster a work environment where everyone can excel and where innovation can flourish.
